Swine Flu Prevention for older

Most of us heard the recent reports of swine flu, but have you thought about what it means for the elderly in their lives, their elderly parents or care? On the day, nearly all of North America was moderate and the chances of contracting swine influenza is still far away. Yesterday, President Obama issued the following official statement: "We are closely monitoring new cases of swine flu in the United States. This is obviously cause for concern and requires a heightened state of alert, but that's no reason for concern."

However, according to the World Health Organization, the number of confirmed cases of swine flu in the world rose to 236 on Thursday, is a significant increase in the total number of 147 the previous day. Anyone who has an older parent or older in their lives, including all certified senior care managers should be concerned about the recent plague pandemic influenza and the potential risks for seniors. This group is a special risk because of the difficulties to enforce when exposed. It is very important to ensure that all home health counselors are trained in the prevention of swine flu guidelines prescribed CDC Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Obtaining relevant information from all active caregivers, including a recent trip and experience flu-like symptoms, is an essential part of prevention.

There are steps that professional carers and the community can take to combat exposure and symptoms of swine flue decline. Center for Disease Control is always updating their website, but current guidance and information on swine flu carer is as follows: symptoms of swine flu, in principle, similar to seasonal flu, fever, sore throat, cough, congestion, cold chills, headache , physical pain and fatigue. Some patients also reported vomiting and diarrhea. If you have symptoms, consult your doctor or community clinic. Your doctor or healthcare provider diagnosis is very important and prescription antiviral drugs are most effective when taken within 48 hours after onset of symptoms. If you are sick, avoid travel and do not go to work or school. Wash your hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds or use alcohol-based hand cleaners and sanitizers. Do not forget your nose and mouth with a handkerchief to cover a cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue.

Or, if necessary, use the upper sleeve, not hands. If you are healthy, wash your hands often and avoid the sick. Swine flu virus incubation period is within 24 to 48 hours. Ensure that all new developments in the field of counseling, such as avoiding crowds followed. Development of emergency care with a high crew. Your plan should also keep a supply of food, medicines, face masks, alcohol-side polished and other supplies.

Swine Flu History and Symptoms

In late March and early April 2009, cases of human infection with this H1N1 virus were first reported in Southern California and near San Antonio, Texas. All U.S. states have since reported cases of H1N1 flu infection in humans. As part of the federal government response to the H1N1 virus, the Department of Health and Human Services issued a nationwide public health emergency declaration on April 26, 2009.

On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization(WHO) signaled that a global pandemic of novel influenza A (H1N1) was underway by raising the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 6. This action was a reflection of the spread of the new H1N1 virus, not the severity of illness caused by the virus. At the time, more than 70 countries had reported cases of novel influenza A (H1N1) infection and there were ongoing community level outbreaks of novel H1N1 in multiple parts of the world.

Since the WHO declaration of a pandemic, the new H1N1 virus has continued to spread, with the number of countries reporting cases of novel H1N1 nearly doubling. The Southern Hemisphere’s regular influenza season has begun and countries there are reporting that the new H1N1 virus is spreading and causing illness along with regular seasonal influenza viruses. In the United States, significant novel H1N1 illness has continued into the summer, with localized and in some cases intense outbreaks occurring. The United States continues to report the largest number of novel H1N1 cases of any country worldwide, however, most people who have become ill have recovered without requiring medical treatment.

Human Infection with H1N1 Influenza Viruses

H1N1 flu viruses do not normally infect humans. However, sporadic human infections with H1N1 flu have occurred. Most commonly, these cases occur in persons with direct exposure to pigs (e.g. children near pigs at a fair or workers in the swine industry).

Human-to-human transmission of H1N1 flu can also occur. This is thought to happen in the same way as seasonal flu occurs in people, which is mainly through coughing or sneezing of people infected with the influenza virus. People may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.

In the past, CDC received reports of approximately one human H1N1 influenza virus infection every one to two years in the U.S., but from December 2005 through February 2009, 12 cases of human infection with H1N1 influenza were reported. For the information on the number of H1N1 flu cases that have occurred since then, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) H1N1 Web site.

H1N1 influenza viruses are not transmitted by food. You cannot get H1N1 influenza from eating pork or pork products. Eating properly handled and cooked pork and pork products is safe. Cooking pork to an internal temperature of 160°F kills the H1N1 flu virus as it does other bacteria and viruses.

Symptoms

The symptoms of H1N1 flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal influenza and include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing. Some people with H1N1 flu have also reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Diagnosis

To diagnose H1N1 influenza infection, a respiratory specimen would generally need to be collected within the first 4 to 5 days of illness (when an infected person is most likely to be contagious). However, some persons, especially children, may be infectious for 10 days or longer. Confirmation on an H1N1 virus requires sending the specimen to CDC for laboratory testing.

Swine flu tips: how to do

When having dinner with my family recently, I told my sons, they may not wish to order pulled pork. My reason was that I already was planning to serve it for dinner the next night, but my eldest son misunderstood me. He gave me a disparaging look and said, 'Mom, you know that we can get swine flu by eating pork, huh? "

Although I am disappointed that he had a low opinion of my argument, I am glad that my son has at least some knowledge of this health scare. But the conversation has me realize that more knowledge to try to suffer, H1N1, and swine flu prevention should have.

Since the spring of this year, the H1N1 virus spread, with the apparently originating in Mexico. It has since done his way literally the whole world is contained in over 70 countries. The extent of this distribution, rather than the severity of the disease has caused the World Health Organization to declare it a pandemic.

Panic and confusion are the enemies of a reasoned response to this pandemic. Instead, disease prevention and preparation helps us to feel as safe as possible under the circumstances.

As in sport, the best attack is a good defense. So staying healthy is easier than dealing with illness. Children should be taught, and everyone should follow some basic rules of prevention:

• Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze, preferably with a tissue or curvature of your arm, not your hands. (Can Small children should learn to "Dracula sneezing," to use one arm up over his face, like the famous count in his cape).
• Wash your hands often. Use soap or hand sanitizers.
• Avoid touching your mouth, nose or eyes.
• Avoid close contact with those who are sick, or if you become ill, try to avoid close contact with others. In other words, stay home from work or school.

In addition, the same rules as are generally good health. Healthy bodies and immune systems are less susceptible to viruses. Thus, regular exercise and a balanced diet, many fruits, vegetables and whole grain products is essential.

Follow these basic guidelines and you can hopefully avoid at all to do with H1N1. Ordering pulled pork should be no problem.

Swine Flu spreads to Europe

While the Europeans first could have gone with little knowledge of the foreign risky situations, which are now in a state of fear as the number of cases in Africa are still swelling. First European victim was found in Spain, twenty-three years ago came from a vacation in Mexico, after complaints of chest. He was ordered to stay home for at least seven days.

Wide range of common symptoms that a person who has received the swine flu shows range from mild fever, cough, sore throat, body pain, fever and headache, other important indicators such as pneumonia and respiratory failure. The virus spreads from person to person in droplets from coughing and sneezing, which is powered by air and deposited on the mouth or nose from nearby victims. While each is possible, in accordance with these symptoms, pregnant women and persons with chronic medical conditions are most sensitive.
Medical centers in Europe have been filled to launch advocacy campaigns such as "Catch it, Bin it, Kill him!" In order to prevent in many cases as possible. Doctors are actually encourages people to wear facemasks and include coughing and sneezing in sharing common space with other people. Distribution of antiviral drug Tamiflu, is on track, thanks to the European Commission and the resources that keep associations to help countries in the EU is ready. Despite enough produced and is available to European citizens, EU officials are not sure that the vaccine had the effect, if you get millions of people, so there is still air of uncertainty. Social care workers are vaccinated first, followed by pregnant women and children under five years. Pensioners are unpredictable at the back of the list. In Greece, vaccinated the entire population.

What no one ever think that swine influenza in the end could be such a grubstake. For pharmaceutical companies, pharmacies firms offering health advice and media exposure alone and headers are converted into currency. For young tourists who do not have enough money to travel, this may be a unique opportunity to take trips at the lowest price. The fever-flu information on the restoration of the need to read newspapers frequently, resulting in a healthy flow of money within news organizations.

Contrary to the cynics who are already speculating on the worst scenario, where one third of the British population will contract the virus H1N1, optimists argue that ninety-eight percent of victims who had the infection again fully without any hospital treatment. After all, swine flu is just another reason to leave hell, and other species of birds, such as avian flu. The real fear factor in cases of swine influenza is the possibility of mutation.

Swine flu recession : continue

Previous topic => Swine flu recession

The problem with ignoring the problem of swine flu WHO is that people are probably right. They have relationships with national health agencies in every major country and get a report that the public sees. Which is probably a reasonable estimate of reported cases worldwide per day. Health professionals also know that mild cases probably go unreported and the number of people with the disease is well beyond many of the assessment. Two billion figure seems impossible, but it was probably close to being right. And if He is basing his assessment on the tracks in their databases, how to estimate how many chances to be low as high.

General business and health sectors are clearly not ready for a disease that could infect 100 million Americans. Companies are not going to plan for the 40% of their workers at home or in hospital. The consequences would be too frightening.

Global recession is nearing the end, if the news from the recent gathering of the world's top central bankers and economists is right. GDP growth should begin in the second half of this year, if not in progress in most countries already. Central banks have invested hundreds of billions of dollars in capital markets to save the financial system. Tens of millions of people have lost their jobs in developed countries, and it's hard to put on the number of those who are in jobs in developing countries.

There is a sense of relief in recent weeks that the recession and misery that attends it is not going to be up and become a multi-year depression. The possibility of that happening seems over.

Global enterprises and financial institutions to do everything themselves and could save the world from financial devastation. Now they say that something can not control and have not prepared for the May crush all their efforts, pulling the economy into a place that will be worse than where the world was at the depth of the recent recession.

Financial and commercial sector might be able to fight the pandemic which infects two billion people, if global GDP was robust. The disease can cause a mild recession. It will not work that way. H1N1 influenza may still be a mark on the radar that the amount of May for nothing, but it does not look like that. Tremendous work of bank policy and government May have saved most of the countries of the unexpected and unprecedented disaster. I, on May turn out that another problem, which was equally important, is largely ignored. That would be, and probably will be a tragedy.

Swine flu recession

There is a lot of analysis that went on when the early cases of swine flu were reported from Mexico. Who began to speak about the pandemic, which has raised specter of the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic that killed nearly 100 million people. Historians estimate that the disease infected one in three people worldwide. Economists began to look at the WHO description of new species and talk about the hundreds of billions of dollars in global GDP will be lost when the flu slowed world trade and put the unthinkable parts of the world labor force in hospitals and sick beds. The costs of treating all the sick people are also expected to be in the billions of dollars to bear the costs of health care and life insurance.

H1N1 flu news is currently less prominent than the results of the baseball box. The flu did not kill many people and it's infected, so small that in many large countries, almost no current cases. The average American probably assumed that the infection in this country is the culmination of several months ago and it was the end of it.

Which recently said it would be wrong to forget the swine flu, because it is about to become a major problem for global health than most people can imagine. It will be hard to believe for those who have kept track of the flu so far. WHO is talking about the danger of flu before and when it turned out not to be as serious as anticipated public hanging.

WHO published new data on the H1N1 strain recently. The first number is staggering and it is hard to believe, what is the problem. The agency says as many as two billion people could contract influenza during the next two years. No one accepts the number, because it is unthinkable and the flu so far as health is less than the risk of colds. Number of cases of illness have doubled every few days to several weeks in many major countries hit two billion figure, and people who want to believe that a likely scenario.

The agency could be wrong, or individuals and companies can be a period of "denial of swine flu." The news is filled with photographs of big companies through the swine flu drill fire evacuating people from infected objects. Hospitals are adding special care for those infected with this highly contagious virus, or at least did not recognize that. Funeral homes are not adding annexes. The public believes that the pandemic flu pigs is nothing more than a fiction created by public health alarmists.

Swine flu dead may reach 90,000

A newly released study by White House science advisers predict that the swine flu pandemic could infect half the U.S. population this year and cause 90,000 deaths, which is more than twice the number of deaths resulting from complications of the regular seasonal flu. And hospitals could be besieged with nearly 1.8 million patients needing more specialized care.

The study was conducted by the President’s Council of Advisers on Science and Technology and reported on a “plausible scenario,” of 30 percent to 50 percent of the country’s population becoming infected during the fall and winter flu season, when swine the flu is expected to surge.

Additionally, the report also described as plausible, 300,000 patients clogging intensive care units, filling 50 percent to 100 percent of the available beds, with estimated deaths ranging from 30,000 to 90,000.

Tom Skinner, a spokesman for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, noted that regular seasonal flu causes about 36,000 American deaths. But the swine flu virus is expected to infect more people, because it’s a new strain.

The council of advisers recommended that President Obama appoint a member of the White House staff, preferably the homeland security adviser, to take responsibility for the swine flu pandemic and speed up production of the swine flu vaccine.

Mike Shaw of the CDC cautioned that the swine flu strain tends to infect younger and healthier people than seasonal flu, with people 65 and older, possibly having some immunity to the virus.

The swine flu vaccine is expected to become readily available by mid-October.

How to wear swine flu mask?

Types of face masks by USFD

Flu masks come in two forms:

Surgical masks: These masks are similar to those worn in the service of doctors Room (OR). It is a thin, relatively inexpensive, and should be trashed after he was wet from his breath, which usually happens within hours. Because it loosely against your face, they are not as effective in blocking pathogens that you could breathe, they are designed to stop germs you breathe (if you are sick) infecting other people.

Mask or "N95" mask "These are powerful and are held against your face with elastic straps. They are labeled" N9 "on the packaging and sometimes the mask itself. Outside the medical facilities, people are wearing clean or busy with other projects, Home Improvement, filter dust and other particles. They are more expensive than surgical masks, but they can be reused unless they are soiled, damaged or wet.

The U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), face masks have different designs.
* A species is connected to a head with two bands, corresponding to the face with a flexible adjustment of the nose and can flat / pleated or duck-billed in shape.
* The second type of mask is formed, the head of an elastic and flexible adjustment of the nose.
* The third type is flat / pleated and affixes the head with ear loops.
Role of face masks for protection

Diving masks approved by the FDA for use as medical devices are intended to have a degree of protection against penetration of blood and body fluids. Face masks drops help stop the spread from person to wear. They also maintain the water sprays or nose and mouth got people to wear a mask. They are not intended to protect against the inhalation of very small particles, aerosols, which may contain viruses. The rule of thumb, diving masks, which may be used only once and then throw in the trash.

To avoid the flu shot from spreadingIf have only mild flu symptoms, do not need medical treatment if your pain gets worse. But if you are one of the groups at high risk of serious illness, contact your doctor at the first sign of flu-like illness. In such cases, the CDC recommends that people call or e-mail your doctor before rushing to emergencies.

Warning sign.

Children should be given immediate medical attention if:

* You have rapid breathing or breathing
* You have a bluish or gray skin color
* Not drinking enough water
* Does not awakening or interacting
* You have severe or persistent vomiting
* There are so impatient that the child does not want to be held
* You have flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
* You have fever with rash
* Have a fever and then attack or sudden mental or behavioral change.

Adults should seek immediate medical attention if:

* Difficulty in breathing or inches of breath
* Pain or pressure in your chest or abdomen
* Sudden dizziness
* Confusion
* Strict or ongoing vomiting
* Flu-like symptoms improve but then return to the worsening of fever or cough

Keep in mind that the doctor is not to determine whether you swine flu, but he or she can take a sample from you and send it to the state health department laboratory for testing, whether it was swine flu. If your physician suspects swine flu, he or she may write a prescription for Tamiflu or Relenza. These antiviral drugs that we find life and death for most people. Most of us swine flu patients from across without antiviral drugs.

Beijing H1N1 Conference: WHO predicts 'explosion' of swine flu cases

BEIJING — The global spread of swine flu will endanger more lives as it speeds up in coming months and governments must boost preparations for a swift response, the World Health Organization said Friday.

There will soon be a period of further global spread of the virus, and most countries may see swine flu cases double every three to four days for several months until peak transmission is reached, said WHO's Western Pacific director, Shin Young-soo.

"At a certain point, there will seem to be an explosion in case numbers," Shin told a symposium of health officials and experts in Beijing. "It is certain there will be more cases and more deaths."

WHO has declared the swine flu strain a pandemic, and it has killed almost 1,800 people worldwide through last week. International attention has focused on how the pandemic is progressing in southern hemisphere countries such as Australia, which are experiencing winter and their flu season.

But it is in developing countries where the accelerated spread of swine flu poses the greatest threat as it places underequipped and underfunded health systems under severe strain, Shin said.

Governments must act quickly to educate the public, prepare their health systems to care for severe cases and protect those deemed more vulnerable to prevent unnecessary deaths, he said.

"We only have a short time period to reach the state of preparedness deemed necessary," Shin said. "Communities must be aware before a pandemic strikes as to what they can do to reduce the spread of the virus, and how to obtain early treatment of severe cases."

Pregnant women face a higher risk of complications, and the virus also has more severe effects on people with underlying medical conditions such as asthma, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, autoimmune disorders and diabetes, WHO chief Margaret Chan said in a video address.

WHO earlier estimated that as many as 2 billion people could become infected over the next two years — nearly one-third of the world's population.

Health officials and drug makers, meanwhile, are looking into ways to speed up production of a vaccine before the northern hemisphere enters its flu season in coming months. Estimates for when a vaccine will be available range from September to December.

WHO has stressed that most cases are mild and require no treatment, but the fear is that a rash of new infections could overwhelm hospitals and health authorities, especially in poorer countries.

The last pandemic — the Hong Kong flu of 1968 — killed about 1 million people. Ordinary flu kills about 250,000 to 500,000 people each year.

Swine flu is also continuing to spread during summer in the northern hemisphere. Normally, flu viruses disappear with warm weather, but swine flu is proving to be resilient.

Metro Atlanta High School affected Swine Flu

Atlanta - A case of swine flu was confirmed in Atlanta at Grady High School, Channel 2 Action News has found.

Students who remained at home while he was sick, according to Atlanta Public Schools spokesman Keith Bromery.

Which is in line with new recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control trade of pigs flu. "This particular strain of flu the mirror normal seasonal influenza, that their recommendations are treated like this," said Bromery.

But some parents are angry, not knowing that the students are sick with swine flu.

"I think this has been knowing when this student is," Maloof said propeller, mother of Grad student.

Bromery said if there are more cases of swine flu in a school district will inform parents. But he said it will take several cases in closing schools.

"You can not shut down the entire school for one or two some cases," said Bromery.

According to health officials in Georgia, there were four pigs flu deaths in the state this year, including 7-year-old in Gilmer County.

Had 477 deaths blamed on the national swine flu.

Swine Flu Vaccine is not enough in USA

The U.S. is not nearly as much of classical swine fever vaccine prepared in mid-October in time, 45 million doses, instead of the planned 120 million, said a federal official.

It is not at fault, but the delay, Health and Human Services spokesman Bill Hall said. Shortly after the fire, more than 20 million doses, which will be sent each week, until the Government has subscribed to 195 million doses of a comprehensive, he said.

But the October deficit, the problems associated with the production, extended by one month of effort to get high risk people vaccinated against a new strain of influenza. The first line should be pregnant women, children and health care professionals, followed by the flu in younger adults, the risk of conditions such as asthma.

Waiting to start vaccination campaigns for about 15 October, however, said Hall. Just to be smaller than originally planned, which is the supply of drip in slow motion.

"Why are we not going to wait for? How to deliver the vaccine. We can not be part of it," said Hall.

The government has long insisted he was confident that this figure is 120 million doses, even at the end of July manufacturers around the world showed them, which is a serious problem brewing shots. The main ingredient is grown in chicken eggs, and the companies get 30 percent of the usual dose of eggs, as they do with the regular winter flu vaccine.

Health officials are working to resolve this problem, giving the producer of virus strains grow best wishes. The recently discovered the problem is the bottleneck to obtain the vaccine in large vats are syringes for the delivery of them, because a limited number of so-called fill and finish facilities, said Hall.

Another delay in the development of tests to verify that they are in the right dose before they have the skills to use force. The problem is that the swine flu vaccine and no vaccine against regular winter flu.

Unlike his cousin again, the regular flu is risky for elderly. These vaccines have been from some parts of the country, and there is ample supply of seasonal vaccines. What swine fever - also known as the H1N1 flu virus family - around 160 million people, groups, vaccination priorities.

But health officials do not expect that much demand, in particular, therefore, that while the flu can kill the pigs, for most people seems to be a milder illness than influenza. Traditionally, only about 40 per cent of the persons recommended for influenza vaccine to make a regular basis.

Know about Swine Flu Symptoms

The current swine influenza outbreak is a form of influenza A viruses, especially H1N1. But what makes it even more dangerous than the annual influenza epidemic, or is it just an exaggeration by the media.

Many have compared swine flu bird flu and SARS, says that, because neither one is proven to be a global problem, ultimately, swine influenza is just similar to hype. But we can not know with certainty.

Swine influenza is a greater risk than SARS, because SARS contagious after the symptoms have appeared, which most likely is what has prevented a major epidemic. Avian influenza or bird flu, on the other hand, is never contagious between people, at least on a larger scale.

How to become infected Flu-like potential as dangerous?

The reason why the pig influenza is a risk that influenza is a highly contagious disease. H1N1 influenza is not as deadly as say, Ebola and other haemorrhagic fevers, but if a pandemic occurred, in the worst case to 1 / 3 of the population could become ill. In this case, even a 5% chance of dying of the disease can mean death for millions.

What can make swine flu more dangerous than a normal flu season, as the Spanish flu in 1918, has slain most healthy young people. Normally influenza is only dangerous for the old and sick. This suggests that, as the Spanish flu, the potentially deadly part, the body mounts immune response against viruses. As these young people with healthy immune systems may be more vulnerable than the old and infirm.

he new swine influenza virus, which broke out in Mexico is unique and potentially dangerous in a way. It is a virus that is a combination of gene segments of human, bird and pig viruses, and may be infectious in humans who are not immune to the new strain.

Influenza virus can change its make-up in two ways: antigenic drift, a series of mutations that cause the virus to gradually evolve over time. Antigenic shift is a sudden change in the surface antigen proteins, suddenly creating a new subtype of the virus. In the history of influenza outbreaks, antigenic shift is the reason behind pandemics in 1918 (Spanish flu), 1957 (Asian flu) and 1968 (Hong Kong flu), because people have no antibodies against the virus.

What is unique to this new swine influenza strain is that it is a type A, strain H1N1, which has not previously been detected in pigs. Lab tests showed that H1N1 is susceptible to the antiviral drug oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir and the U.S. government is willing to use medication for the treatment and prevention of infection with swine influenza viruses.

Swine Flu Vaccine has side effect to the Deadly Nerve Disease?

The British Health Protection Agency, two letters sent to neurologists on the eve of a massive vaccination against H1N1, or classical swine fever virus, and leaked to a British newspaper, to alert doctors to see an increase when the fatal condition in which the brains can be stimulated to a vaccine.

Guillain-Barre syndrome that attacks the lining of nerve paralysis and inability to breathe, and can be fatal, the London Sunday Mail reported.

The first round of vaccinations is scheduled for October and has been designated to treat 13 million people, give preference to anyone between the ages of six to 65 months, based on health-related problems, pregnant women and health. "

All the concern about the inadequate testing of new vaccines and the lack of knowledge about the effects on children.

HPA 600 letters sent neurologists, speech, using a similar swine flu vaccine in the United States in 1976, causing more deaths than influenza.

During the 10-week period, the vaccine was administered 500 GBS cases were identified. Immunization of swine fever increased the likelihood of suffering from GBS coefficient 8th Although the vaccine was withdrawn, when the connection is made, the U.S. government has paid millions to settle suits their damaged or Slain.

HPA GBS is a reference to a number of health professionals in the forthcoming vaccination may be a repetition of what has become known as the 1976 fiasco ", despite the fact that the new vaccine against classical swine fever virus is slightly different strain of the virus in 1976.

"I do not have the classical swine fever Jab because of the risk of GBS," a senior neurologist, said the Mail.

Donovan got positive result for Swine Flu Testing

Los Angeles - Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan has been tested positive for what is considered to swine influenza and his teammates take precautions.

Donovan will be assessed by a doctor on Friday and Saturday, the team said. His condition Galaxy game against Seattle on Saturday night remains unclear.

"This of course depends on how Landon feels and what the doctors tell me," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said after practice Friday. "He may be an option depending on how quickly he can about it."

Donovan does not practice Friday after playing all 90 minutes for the U.S. in the 2 / 1 loss to Mexico in World Cup qualifying Wednesday in Mexico City. SI.com first reported his condition Thursday evening.

United States Soccer Federation said Donovan joined the national team 9 August in Miami, three days before the start of the game. He also said that no other players expressed or shows signs of flulike symptoms, while in camp.

Even Landon said he did not hit as hard as normal flus can hit him, "Galaxy spokesman Justin Pearson said.

In a statement the federation said Donovan tested positive for influenza virus, which is presumed to be known as the H1N1 strain of swine influenza.

"We had the flu last week in a team in Boston," Arena said. "We took the necessary precautions. We had several staff members a few days and Medicine."

All Galaxy players and support staff that meets Donovan said that Tamiflu should be up to 10 days. About half the players on the U.S. national team, is rejoining clubs in Europe and return to MLS teams.

Also missing practice Friday Galaxy is David Beckham and Chris Birchall, who played Wednesday for England and Trinidad and Tobago respectively. They along with Donovan received a day off, said Arena, who added that no one else, but Donovan was sick.

Tamiflu Resistance to Swine Flu in Asia

Tamiflu resistance to A/H1N1 swine flu has been formally reported by the World Health Organization (WHO) in Hunan, China and Singapore adding to the three cases in Japan, two in Hong Kong (the second just reported today) and one each in Denmark and Canada. There have also been media reports of some resistance in Thailand, but it is unclear how many cases were found and if they were even confirmed. Resistance first reported along the Texas / Mexican border was later denied.

The Japanese, Danish, Canadian and second Hong Kong patients all had been taking Tamiflu as a preventive measure after exposure to the disease and still developed symptoms of flu around the fifth day of their prophylactic treatment, suggesting development of resistant strains after taking the drug.
The first Hong Kong case involved a 16 year old American teen flying from San Francisco who had not taken Tamiflu before she became ill. The patient seen in Singapore was a 28 year old American woman flying from Hawaii. Although the details are not clear, it is possible that she too already had contracted a circulating resistant strain of the virus prior to treatment.

Lack of details from WHO has fostered concerns that Tamiflu resistance may be more widespread than officially reported. Speaking to the Canadian Press, Dr. Charles Penn, a scientist with WHO said that “reported cases to date have been isolated, with no connections among them and no sign that the infected people passed resistant viruses to their contacts.”

Tamiflu and Relenza are currently the only two antiviral drugs available to treat swine flu. Since its emergence in April, the now pandemic A/H1N1 swine flu virus has been resistant to two older antivirals, amantadine and rimantadine.

Dr. Penn stated that laboratories around the world are monitoring the virus, looking for changes in the strain that might suggest a similar problem of resistance.

Swine Flu Preparation for Militarization

The growing militarization of the preparations for the outbreak of swine flu will proceed quickly and without much public debate, despite the relatively mild nature of the disease so far, and the fact that many experts believe that terrorism is overblown.

Earlier this week, Republican Representative Paul Broun Georgia warned of a town hall meeting that "the socialist elite" may be preparing to declare martial law in the United States use of pandemic diseases, such as the reason. "They are trying to create an environment where they can take," said participants according to an article in the Athens Banner-Herald. "We have seen history."

National guardsmen will have the role of panicked military and police training and what they want to do, as well as using natural gas, where the riots, "said a newspaper article entitled" National Guard Mag drilling in universities prepare for possible riots H1N1. "The story of the popular local law enforcement becomes involved.

All this despite the fact that the Maine Center for Disease Control reported only one death tied to swine flu, and people actually died from "complex, the basic conditions H1N1" according to Dr. Dora Mills, director of the Center.

"This is part of the transfer of matter from point A to point B," the director assured Oxford County Emergency Management Agency, Scott Parker. He said that the Sun Journal that the plan was introduced, only "if necessary."

It concerns the fear and confusion was raised during a meeting in April, so the governor and adjutant general in the Maine National Guard has decided to develop a plan so that the military police.

But if the state police from the military preparations were not bad enough, the federal government now wants to seize state power for home use in order pentagon. Although at least the states are fighting back on this issue.

National Governors Association wrote a letter to the Defense Department last week criticized a proposal to take control of their National Guard units of domestic disasters. "The strong potential for the existing confusion in the mission and the implementation of the dilution governors' control in situations where they are known, and better than holding a federal military commander," he says in the letter.

But still retains control of National Guard soldiers preparing to deal with the swine flu, the federal government increasingly militarized "emergency preparation" for the virus is rapidly developing and largely under the radar. Just last month CNN and Fox News Online reported that the U.S. military is drawing up plans to deal with the extension of swine flu. Pentagon is preparing to soldiers available, if necessary, assistance to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to address the potential outbreak of H1N1 virus, "according to Fox News on July 29 article entitled" Military ready to help FEMA Battle outbreak of swine flu. "

And in the last year, reports began to surface the federal troops that were preparing for the "homeland defense" mission and will operate on U.S. soil - in what appears to violate the group Comitatus Act, which prohibits the use of military force in the local law enforcement.

"You can be called to help in civil unrest and crowd control," Army Times 2008 article entitled "Brigade homeland tours start Oct. 1 Soldiers will be responsible for it wishes to know how to set up road blocks and the use of "nonlethal" weapons usually reserved for war-zone subdue Americans.

In addition to the recently resurrected Obama administration, which is strongly criticized the Bush-season plan "update" the quarantine regulations, while the U.S. Army advertises for employment "internment / resettlement specialists" on its website.

Federal government health authorities are working quarantine centers from Anchorage to Miami, and in 2005 George W. Bush has exercised executive, adding that the flu is "potential" to create a pandemic to the list of quarantinable diseases. Military may be used to enforce the quarantine? It seems increasingly possible, if you come.

This is all happening at a time when many experts warned that concerns about the swine-influenza virus has been blown out of proportion. In many areas of disease, although absorb. "We can see something is wrong," said former Ontario chief surgeon, Dr. Richard Schabas. "We can not expect that it's as bad as flu in 2003 in the Fujian strain."

He noted that a pandemic is expected to kill thousand in Canada, but now the swine flu requested 66 lives there. "Tell me how overblown that. ... Our products must always suggest the possibility of not only the definition, but a sense of probability."

The England doctor, Liam Donaldson, recently announced plans to scale back the national pandemic flu from the service about 1,600 call-center workers with less than 600 the number of continuous decline. Warned of the potential for "second wave", but now the pain is less severe than even regular seasonal flu.

Australian National University microbiologist Peter Collignon ABC News said that the H1N1 virus is not worse than the annual flu strains. "My main interest in what is happening, the fear of proportion to what the data shows," he says and adds that using the word "pandemic" is not making any need for concern.

But here in the U.S., emergency preparations continue to expand the power of the federal government. There was a discussion of mandatory vaccination. A control so-called "executive orders" issued in the past, presidents continue under Obama shows that the executive claims sweeping "emergency" powers to address concerns about health.

If Americans start demanding some accountability and transparency, the trend toward larger and more aggressive government is likely to continue. This time the excuse is going on in the swine flu, but always a "crisis" not "wasted", as Obama Chief of Staff to Rahm Emanuel.

Currently, preparations to deal with influenza fever is not only unconstitutional, they are probably much more dangerous than the virus itself. It is time for Americans to take personal responsibility for their health and their government and say enough is enough

Swine Flu will not have the 2nd round.

We have some good news for the swine flu once. Worldwide - including me - will brace for a second wave of classical swine fever in the autumn. The second, most destructive pandemic. This is how an influenza pandemic to which everyone knows. But the odds are more lethal second wave seems to be diminishing.

First, a survey of 60 leading flu experts said that most flu experts no longer believe that a more virulent of classical swine fever coming. They still have another wave coming, but I think it will be more virulent. L'article sobre un estudi no mostra, que és un tipus d'experts en grip, o per què han canviat d'opinió, i crec que és frustrant. Knowing the credentials of its own, and why he did not believe to worsen, will help us know how this estimate is reliable.

But there's more. In addition to the anonymous survey undescribed influenza experts also have two research viròlegs - viròlegs names, even - that the 14 analyzed were flu pandemics in the last 500 years. And there is no second killer wave. That found no evidence of the "wave of the problem" in a flu pandemic. Instead of becoming a pandemic Fluss normal seasonal flu.

That does not mean we are off the hook. Mutatis flu more difficult. This is how we have the classical swine fever in the first place. There is no guarantee that will not mutate to a flu. But we have no reason to believe that it is no longer relevant.

The future of Swine Flu
Classical swine fever is the rapid spread of the winter, just like any other flu. Lack of sunlight contributes to the development of viral infections, and multiply rapidly. Today there are 10,000 cases of H1N1 worldwide. Experts predict that he will continue to rise faster than in the past and future.

But there is a question of Panic!
Two years ago, SARS was blown a part of what has happened? People develop immunity against the virus. H1N1 is the same with me during the development of immunity in a timely manner.
The virus is airborne, you can not stop. Our body is already in the immunity to panic.
We must ensure that children and elderly, who have less privacy and will not allow them to crowded places, that's all.
Stay healthy and avoid panic.

Mexico confirms 42 deaths of A/H1N1 flu

MEXICO CITY, (Xinhua) -- Mexican Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova Villalobos said yesterday that a total of 42 A/ H1N1 flu deaths have been confirmed, up from 29 a day earlier, but the increase was due to testing catching up with samples, not a sudden increase in mortality.

This month has only seen two new deaths, he said. The total number of patients confirmed as infected rose to 1,112 from 866 a day earlier, he added.

Cordova said on Tuesday the nation had seen 214 deaths of people suffering symptoms consistent with A/H1N1 flu: a sudden increase in temperature, breathing difficulties, headaches and muscle pain. On Tuesday 37 samples were still pending, 74 had been ruled out and 77 did not have usable samples, meaning that they would never be confirmed or ruled out.

Yesterday, Cordova said that the top three most affected regions were Mexico City with 68 percent of infections, the state of Mexico immediately around the city with 12 percent, and San Luis Potosi with 7 percent of cases.

Last week, the Mexican government ordered that all educational institutions from nurseries to universities close in a bid to halt the spread of the virus, sending home around 33 million people, or a third of the population. High schools and universities are opening yesterday, and nurseries will reopen on Monday.

Mexico City halted the vast majority of activities that bring large numbers of people together, including courts, gymnasiums, bars, dance halls and churches. It began reopening courts and allowing some businesses to open yesterday.

According to the World Health Organization, 1,516 people across 22 nations have contracted A/H1N1 flu, previously known as swine flu. The United States is the second worst hit country with 403 confirmed cases, and two deaths, one of a Mexican toddler in a Texas hospital and the other a Texas resident living in Cameron County, along the US-Mexico border.

Their mother, Anne Rutter, as he said her son suffers from asthma, and Harrison was extra small bronchial tubes, which it at greater risk of complications if it enters into classical swine fever.

"This could be potentially life-threatening-to him," he said.

Ms. Rutter heard a study on the Internet and signed by her son when he can.

He said he had some concerns about the potential side-effects of the vaccine, but believed that the benefits outweigh the risk.

"I held my breath for the first five minutes after vaccination, and I sleep in the night before," he said.

"However, I believe in science and doctors, and their ability to create a safe vaccine, if it is the smaller of classical swine fever."

Ms. Rutter was so concerned about their children catching H1N1, which is to keep the school at the beginning of this parliamentary term.

They are not returning to receive the second swine flu shots after three weeks.

"Some people may think I am paranoid, but swine flu is not as simple as many people may think," said

Swine Flu Vaccine: What's is adjuvent?

While drug makers to prepare in anticipation of a possible outbreak of swine influenza vaccine this fall, one of the issues that remain to be resolved whether the shots contain adjuvants.
"This is what allows the immune system to respond to a higher degree of efficiency," said Dr. David Fedson, former professor of medicine at the University of Virginia and former medical director of pharmaceutical company Aventis Pasteur.

Adjuvants may include various forms of aluminum and is usually used in combination with other vaccines in the United States, including vaccination against hepatitis A and B, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). Adjuvant to the vaccine in an influenza pandemic would be a mixture of water and oil.

With these different vaccines, doctors hope to reduce the vaccine itself acknowledged that this is necessary.

Swine Flu Protection guide from WHO

World Health Organization has expressed swine influenza as a pandemic disease in June. Pandemic is an epidemic, geographically widespread, occur throughout a region or even worldwide.
And being air-borne, the risk of spread of swine influenza have increased greatly.

Here are some tips and precautions to be taken by WHO to keep yourself and others safe from swine influenza H1N1 virus --

1. Cover your nose and mouth with disposable tissue when coughing or sneezing.
2. Discard off properly used tissues immediately after use.
3. Frequently wash hands with soap and water.
4. If you have flu-like symptoms, seek medical advice immediately.
5. If you have flu-like symptoms, a minimum distance of 1 meter from the others.
6. If you have flu-like symptoms, stay home from work, school or congested areas.
7. Avoid hugging, kissing and trembling hands when greeting.
8. Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.

These are the instructions from the WHO, but you can be safer by using face masks and gloves when touching a sick patient or an unhealthy areas. Face masks are available in pharmacies in general, but if it is sold out, visit all the surgical instruments shop to find it. Do not worry about the tendency of these things, if his health. Wear face masks in any public place where there is too much crowd.

If you are sick, may be that the flu-like or not, just try to stay a couple and avoid contact with other people. And contact your doctor and any approved swine flu treatment at the hospital soon.

Also when you visit a hospital to get the swine flu, use mouth mask and gloves and not touch any surface. Be sure to check with a new syringe.
More tips will be shared soon.

Vaccine Testing for Swine Flu

In a race with time, tests for swine flu vaccine is beginning now. Many volunteers from the University of Maryland, and Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cinncinnati received the shot today. After 8 days, blood samples were to see what makes a single dose, then two weeks later, scientists will know what a dose of the two forces can do.

November is the rush is about. Children return to school and winter came, all head inside. Where all the viruses like to hang out. It's easy for them to jump from the people. Jump is not so much, especially if they have an entire room coughing or sneezing. Swine flu vaccine is the best way to be protected from swine influenza. Do not forget the seasonal flu shot, too.

Signs and symptoms of swine influenza has a high fever, cough, fatigue and body aches. Wash new vaccine is clear, the best defense at this point. It is expected that swine flu shots are ready for distribution by mid October.

Swine flu vaccine is very like the seasonal flu vaccine. Trials for safety and reliability is what scientists are doing now in this stage of research in hope of getting them to the public at the time. The H1N1 vaccine have the same preparation and the basic formula seasonal flu shot and you may feel some minor symptoms such as flu.

The H1N1 vaccine is a killed virus. This means that your body will build antibodies against specific viruses without having a live virus in the body. So when people are attacked by real virus defense techniques, the reservation save up and ready for battle. Flu vaccine is expected to be three shots this year, one for seasonal influenza, swine flu on Thursday.

Swine Flu preparation for school

Can you believe school is already a number of children (what happened to the traditional post-Labor Day back to class?). In Atlanta today, approximately 50 thousand children start classes this morning and beyond the usual first day jitters and self-doubt, students have a sense of how seriously their school administrators, government guidelines for the H1N1 virus. Steve Osunsami, filing for World News, noted that school staff teach students how to prevent deadly swine influenza virus with signs and slogans to "wash their hands as clean Gene" and "Teach germs a lesson."

The federal guidelines released last weeks Osunsami notes that they "emphasize personal hygiene, keep surfaces clean and looking for sick students also asked schools to remain open when a swine flu outbreak. This situation has teachers and school staff hope to acquire these new" clean " directives of their students to influenza's punch later in the year. Osunsami's World News piece with a mother who says: "She is very concerned about the October and November, when flu season is always a problem. "Osunsami reports that" the best weapon against the virus may receive the vaccine now in clinical trials. "Unfortunately, when this vaccine will be widely available more reduced. Osunsami:" Today, federal health officials said in November that it may, for many Americans immunized and fully protected. "

Swine Flu Vaccine developing in India

India is expected to be one of the first countries to develop an indigenous, injectable vaccine against swine influenza and the government has already asked the health centers to human trials, says a senior health.

"We are not concerned about what happens abroad. Our government has a plan for the vaccine by the end of this year and we will in the first countries to have such a vaccine to combat H1N1 virus, VM Katoch, Secretary of Department of Health Research, told IANS in an interview.

"India has embarked on a vaccine since April, shortly after the epidemic broke out in the world. At least three companies working on the vaccine. A company has real progress and we believe in in November, we have something in hand," he added .

Katoch said the vaccine will be available in the market for an injection at the end of the year.

In recent months, India has more than 700 cases of swine flu in Delhi and Maharashtra are the worst affected. Both countries have more than 50 percent of the total number of cases in the country.

"Who has created four strains of the drug and treatment (in India) has approved all of them. On this basis, the vaccine has been developed at three locations across the country.

Three pharmaceutical companies - Serum Institute of India (Pune), Bharat Biotech (Hyderabad) and panacea Biotech (New Delhi) - to develop the vaccine. Pune, the company has made real progress, "he said.

While the Serum Institute is developing an "egg-based vaccine, the other two are the development of cell vaccines. "But they are all available as injections," Katoch said.

When asked about human experiments, he said the Ministry of Health has already aware of the health centers in this area and all interested parties are welcome.

"After the trial period from animals older than three companies, the vaccine will be for human trials. Mag in November, we will some tests on humans."

"Before permitting, we will verify the credentials of any clinical trial, the history and effectiveness. It is a guide for the present and the clinical trial to follow the official protocol," said Secretary IANS.

He also said human trials are conducted in different centers. "There may also outside India."

Katoch, a leading Health Science, said the parties should provide a brief description of the interest, experience, expertise and infrastructure available for the implementation of phase I and phase II clinical trials or multicenter.

He said that India is ready for quick approval of the vaccine, because it is a long time to develop a drug or a vaccine. He also said that the quality should not be affected and the "security measures" should be supported.

The H1N1 has killed four so far. As at July 31, the World Health Organization has reported 162,380 cases of laboratory confirmed influenza A (H1N1) and 1154 deaths and more than 150 countries.

North American Summit talk to Swine Flu Season

WASHINGTON-When President Barack Obama visited Mexico in April, the now global epidemic of swine influenza - unbeknownst to the White House - he had just started and help Obama returned sick.

What could have become a diplomatic Downer, however, ultimately transformed into a bright point.

Obama was never in danger, help and his family recovered, and the two countries cooperate extensively on the influenza epidemic in the spring and beyond. The United States has won points with his southern neighbor for not joining the country ban, trade and prohibiting the taking of other measures that Mexico considered unfairly punitive.

Now, as Obama returns to Mexico, the swine flu that spread from there throughout the world is increasingly in the news - and the top of the agenda of the lightning-fast, to three-way summit Sunday and Monday.

Obama, Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harder will try to rely on co-operation earlier than planned to handle the new wave of cases in North America during the next flu season.

John Brennan, Obama's chief security aide, said that the time for negotiations - and crucial, given the long border from the United States with Mexico and Canada. As important as it is to connect health officials and ready supplies of vaccines and antivirals, the three leaders are also at the same time for the public and reinforce the desire not to panic when cases arises, he says.

"Some people will fall ill and die," said Brennan. The maintenance of the seriousness and extent of the disease to a minimum is a priority, but officials "want to make sure we do everything we can to ensure the continuation of trade, transport and trade between the three countries .

America's first and third are the largest trading relationship with Canada and Mexico. All three are partners in North America Free Trade Agreement, the largest free trade area in the world. The closure of borders or restricting travel would be very costly for families and businesses from all sides of the border, an important consideration given the limping economy and the fact that health experts see these actions as unnecessary contain the spread of influenza.

President George W. Bush started the tradition of the Trilateral in 2005 with the first summit was held near his ranch in Texas.

They are usually rather sleepy business - not splashy new little attention. Despite the lofty name of the Summit of North American leaders did not cause critical and is generally more of a progress report on trade integration and security as an action-packed headline-grabber.

Officials say the meetings are vital nonetheless.

Peter DeShazo, a former State Department official for the affairs of the Western Hemisphere, said that Canada and Mexico are vital to the U.S. economy and security, which makes regular conversations at the highest level a must. "These relationships are so complex and multifaceted," said DeShazo, who heads the Americas Program Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Obama said National Security Adviser James Jones: "I think you have problems you wait too long before talking to your neighbors."

The fifth summit of North America is short - a night and barely half the next day, but the list of issues is long.

The United States neighbors want Obama to explain where America's economic recovery is under way because the two countries have seen their wealth decline due to problems in the U.S. Obama will hear complaints from Calderon and Harper on "Buy American" in the requirements of $ 787 billion economic stimulus package.

Climate change is a priority, too.

The three leaders also called upon to take a position on a recent problem in the hemisphere - the coup in June, Honduras, which saw President Manuel Zelaya was overthrown by the military.

Obama planned a meeting late Sunday afternoon with Calderon. He did not schedule another session with Harper during his stay in Mexico, Canada's leader will be President on September 16 in Washington.

The three leaders had dinner together Sunday night at the agenda intentionally open and free. The next day, they have more formal meetings. They appear together in front of journalists before leaving at noon.

Obama meeting with Calderon will continue its road to a new tone in US-Mexican relations.

They have had ups and downs, under Bush, pushed by a fracture during the war in Iraq, the U.S. build a border and the failure of Bush to produce immigration review .

Like Bush, Obama insisted on strengthening border security. He however promised to renew efforts for immigration review, including a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

During his visit in April, Obama made a welcome recognition for the Mexicans that Americans share responsibility for violence in the south of the border due to drug consumption and trafficking of firearms. Since then, the United States has made an effort to stop the flow of guns south and money.

Drug violence has killed more than 11,000 people since Mexico has launched a national crackdown in 2006. But U.S. $ 100 million payment to help the fight against drugs in Mexico, is being held in more concern in Congress about the abuses committed by the military.

What's Swine Flu?

Swine flu, which now is called H1N1 influenza, is a type of influenza virus. This is a new strain of flu, only in recent times that affect people. Is not caught from pigs or eat pork. It is human influenza virus, and currently is spread by people. It is believed that a group of three influenza viruses - swine flu, bird flu and human influenza. The new strain is a highly contagious and rapidly spread worldwide.

H1N1 is different from other strains of influenza. The strain of flu has not been submitted by people before that were not developed immunities. This is what makes it dangerous. Currently no preventive treatment is possible to avoid this. This is why people who are elderly, very young or immune system too must be careful to avoid getting influenza.

How dangerous is doubtful. We are only beginning to see the beginning of cases in the United States. It is thought that originated in Mexico, but has since spread worldwide. The worst case, it appears that there is in Mexico, it is likely that many people do not know the risks and the flu will not immediately seek medical treatment.

H1N1 influenza is again to avoid making people do with pigs. Is similar in some respects that the bird that hit the world for decades. However, this proved to be more serious. Be a serious outbreak, because nobody has the freedom that this strain of flu. It is estimated that nearly 1 in 4 people contact with swine flu contract.

The swine flu symptoms are similar to the standard seasonal flu bug. Swine flu of temperature increase at the beginning, with fatigue, muscle aches. There are also associated with common cold symptoms, including swine flu and cough and sore throat and stuffy nose. In addition to some people, nausea or vomiting and diarrhea. The severity of the symptoms is what leads to the consideration of most doctors diagnose flu pigs.

Anyone with symptoms should seek medical attention immediately. Who has access to immediate treatment can make a full recovery. Doctors to take nose and throat swab samples sent to laboratory for testing. The results are returned within a few days. Drug treatment called Tamiflu. Tamiflu, the doctor will determine if necessary. Most people get over swine flu within a few days ago. When swine flu, your body has the freedom from viruses in the future.

Swine Flu Fears at the Haji

ABC's Clark Bentson reports from Rome:

While the debate continues in the United States on who should be prioritized for the H1N1 innoculations, the arrival of the first batches of the new vaccine sometime in September may not be in time to further exacerbate the global health pandemic.

The largest annual gathering of humans in the world is about to begin. Three million people more than 160 countries in the world are preparing for the Haji and Umrah pilgrimages, a requirement for all Muslims who are physically able to visit their holy shrines in Mecca, Saudi Arabia at least once in their life time.

During their participation at the Hajj, it is widely feared that the large crowds of pilgrims could potentially expose each other to the virus.

The potential for the spread of the H1N1 virus is serious concern not only for Saudi officials who must deal with it locally, but for every Health Ministry of every country from which pilgrims come from. After completing their religious rites, the participants board crowded flight homes; possibly spreading the disease even more rapidly to every corner of the planet -- including to the United States. It is expected that up to 10,000 Americans will be part of this year’s pilgrimage.

Complicating matters, Saudi officials have reported their first deaths from the H1N1 flu this past week, and Indonesian officials have confirmed a death from a woman who recently returned from Mecca. Saudi Arabia has already diagnosed more than 230 cases of the H1N1 virus this year and is bracing for more. The country has enacted a national plan to combat a pandemic, and the plan "states clearly the steps to be followed to trace any suspect or disease contractor," according to a Saudi Health Ministry press release.

The two key periods of concern are during Ramadan when many people make their Umrah pilgrimage. The Umrah rites can be made at any time of the year, but are commonly done during Ramadan which this year is in August. The Hajj, which is when the vast majority of pilgrims travel to fulfill their obligations, is in November this year.
